Text Box: MANIAC MAKES
MONEY
by Tyler Dama
Dan Cashman, the disc jockey of our local radio station Z107.3, has stayed up and on air for 60 hours straight - from 5 September 12:00 P.M. through 7 September at midnight to raise money for the Hurricane Katrina victims in the Gulf Coast area.
Maybe the strangest thing about this whole story is that Cashman thought up this idea all by himself. “I thought of this all on a dime,” he told me when I interviewed him September 6th during the marathon, better known as “The Cashathon.”
When asked why he is doing this, he replied, “I figure if people realize I can give up my time 60 hours straight, then they can give up a little bit of money,” which they did, raising a total of $20,110,
“People are very generous in this area,” said Cashman, but people from all over gave pledges, including a couple from Portland, Oregon that were coming to visit family. One person was so generous Text Box: size, sexual orientation, or religion, And after all isn’t that what America is all about: people coming together to help one another?

HURRICANE RELIEF
by Ashley Rowlett
The lower elementary class of the Stillwater Montessori School did a bottle drive to raise funds for the people affected by Hurricane Katrina. The upper elementary class did a bake sale and made ribbons. Some of the younger kids made bracelets and necklaces and sold them for 50 cents each. Together they earned a total of $300 dollars. Proceeds have been given to the Red Cross. Thank you to all who offered their help and support.
